Yesterday's Doctor Appointment

02.14.09

Well, yesterday was the big day - the day we were to find out if we're having a boy or girl. But, as luck would have it, our little one had it's legs straight up and held tightly together. We did see the brain, face, femur, finger and toes, and heard the heartbeat that is now 130 beats per minute, a little slower than our first ultrasound that indicated a rate of 160.

So, we'll have another ultrasound on March 17. Actually, we're going to have an ultrasound each month for the remainder of the pregnancy. Since I loose weight when I'm pregnant, it's hard to get a good measurement on how big the baby is otherwise.

I do have what is known as Placenta Previa which basically means my placenta is unusually close to my cervix. If the placenta were to fully cover the cervix, the worst side effect would be that it might be difficult to stop any bleeding during and after delivery. What I have is called Marginal Placenta Previa which means it's barely touching the cervix and it's very possible that as the baby grows the placenta will reposition and they'll be no more previa and no reason to worry. My doctor assures me there is no reason to worry now as this is extremely common, just something they want to keep an eye on.

Other that that, everything checked out great - no weight gain and great blood pressure. And last month I had a blood test where they checked for down syndrome, spinal bifida, and a couple of disorders and all tested negative - so yeah for that!

Here are a few pictures from the ultrasound and a recent picture of Andrew follows. He finally had his hair cut!
