Happy Birthday, Jackson!

01.22.2011

Our little friend Jackson turned four last week and his mom and dad hosted a birthday party for him at The Little Gym.  Both Andrew and Megan had a great time.  Andrew played with the big kids and Megan had a little party of her own in the background.

18 Months Old

01.12.2011

My little diva is 18 months old now.  She is so stinkin' cute and so much fun, too!  At her wellness appointment, she weighed 23 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 31.5 inches.  (In comparison, at 18 months Andrew weighed 30 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 33.5 inches.)

Megan was in a terrible mood at the doctor's office.  She cut six teeth in one week and has another that it really giving her a fit trying to break through.  I enjoyed the fact that she wanted some extra Mommy-love, but when it came time for shots...well, let's just say everyone knew it!

At 18 months, Megan...
  • climbs on everything and shows no fear.
  • has all but two of her baby teeth (six of which were cut this month alone!).
  • is finally starting to grow more hair.  I can even put it in bows - though she refuses to leave them in her hair very long.
  • has a spunky little personality and definitely wants things her way.
  • loves her brother.
  • hates to wear socks and shoes.
  • loves Barney and Friends (Yuck.).
  • says a lot of words and a few "sentences" - Mama, Daddy, Papaw, Nanny, book, ball, cup, no (her favorite word right now!), What's that? It's a .... (book, ball, etc.), bite-bites, night-night, puppy, kitty, and a few others.
  • is a great sleeper.
  • is a good eater.  The only things I've found she won't eat is cottage cheese - and who could blame her for that!?!
  • is beginning to travel better (she doesn't hate her car seat quite as much as she used to).
  • does a happy dance when her daddy comes home from work.
  • loves for people to talk to her on the phone, but rarely says anything back.
  • is stinkin' cute (did I say that already?).
  • loves to play in Andrew's room, which can be a real hazard sometimes.
  • loves, loves, loves to take baths.
  • runs most everywhere she goes.
  • is a real wiggle worm when it comes to changing her diaper.
  • has started unzipping her sleepers and unfastening her diaper (goody).
  • loves to be read to.
  • loves to play peep-eye.
  • argues with Andrew over the animals in the pastures on the way to church - Andrew says they're cows and Megan INSISTS they are puppies.
  • has a great little imagination.
  • points out babies in public.  She loves babies!
  • loves to wear hats - unless I want her to wear one.
  • enjoys playing by herself but is always up for a play date - especially Andrew and/or Daddy!
  • likes to dance.
  • doesn't like to be fed - she's too independent for that.
  • wants to ride her tricycle so bad but isn't quite tall enough yet.
  • is a happy little girl whom I love more and more everyday - if that's even possible!

Our Favorite Things

01.12.2011

This time of year, we spend a lot of time inside.  And sometimes, with two little ones, it's hard to keep everyone entertained.  So what do we do to pass our time?

Andrew's favorite thing right now is his Leapster Explorer 2.  He loves the SpongeBob game.  He also plays with his new Tag Reading System a lot.  And of course he hasn't abandoned his love for planes, trains, and automobiles.  Oh and just about anything on Nick Jr. is sure to catch his attention.  There's also a preschool game on the computer he likes to play.  Most always anything Andrew is interested in is some type of learning game.  And lately, he's spent a lot of time cuddling with Mommy - and this mommy isn't complaining!

Megan's favorite thing to do is to be the star of her own personal circus.  She climbs on anything and everything.  She crawls in, out, over, and under anything in her way.  She loves balls, books, and babies.  And just recently, she's found a new love for her tunnel.  I've actually been frantically looking for her and finally found her hiding there.  She's such a stinker!  She also likes to wear her tiaras, bracelets, and necklaces.  We often refer to her as our little diva.  Her favorite "cartoon" is Barney. She loves it.  She jumps up and down when we turn it on for her.  I'll admit I'm not a big fan of Barney, but I do enjoy watching my little beauty shake her booty! :)

And I...well, I spend a lot of time doing laundry, cooking meals, picking up toys, etc.  And while I do all these chores, I usually have something on TV in the background.  It's most always a re-run of something I've probably seen 100 times.  But I choose to keep those types of shows on because they don't require a lot of my attention in order for me to know what's going on.  I've re-watched every episode of 7th Heaven, Beverly Hills 90210, Reba, and a few others.  Right now, I look forward to my daily dose of Gilmore Girls and Dharma and Greg.  And my secret addiction...celebrity gossip.  People.com is one of my favorite sites to keep me up-to-date on some of my favorite stars.

Snow Days

01.10.2011

As of 2 pm today, we have just under six new inches of snow (there was a little snow left from the last snow, but I can't say how many).  The forecast indicates more now and ice will come later today.

I was so worried about William traveling to work this morning.  And now I'm worried about how the forthcoming ice will affect his trip home, and of course his trip back out in the morning.  We've been very fortunate in the past - most snow falls came on his days off.  But this time, not so lucky...

Andrew loves to sneak and use the camera.  And it's always interesting to see the pictures he's taken.  Here are some of his latest snapshots...

Judgement House

01.08.2011

I took the kids to the grocery store yesterday.  They were both so well-behaved and I was so proud!  But this one lady looked me over as if I was diseased or something and it took me a while to figure out why.

Do you remember the black eye Megan gave herself on Tuesday? This is what it looks like today...

I admit that it looks worse in person.  And I imagine this is why that lady looked at me as if she thought I were a child abuser or something.  Good thing Megan's busted lip had already healed, huh?  I'm the furthest thing from a child abuser, but I can't help that some of Megan's circus acts don't always work out how she planned.  But thanks for the judgement, lady.  I hope you're enjoying the snow at your glass house today.

Is it time for a nap yet?

Week of 01.01.2011

Whew, what a year.  And we're not even a week into it!  I hope the last few days are no indication of how the rest of the year is going to be.  I don't feel like I've even had time to breathe.

On Saturday (Jan 1), Megan busted her lip.  She fell in the laundry room.  William swooped her up and took her to the car (we were on our way out the door anyway) and when I settled in, I noticed blood all over her lips.  It swelled a little, but she was a real trooper about it.

On Sunday, both of my kids acted as if they had never been to church before.  Megan would not stay still, nothing we gave her pleased her and she let everyone know by throwing things left and right as hard as she possible could.  She pulled my hair, she whined a little, she kicked the people in front of us.  I'm confident most everyone on our side of the church was complete distracted by her and I'm quite embarrassed about it.  And as I tried to calm her, Andrew was in the floor playing, or laying on the pew whining, or talking out loud when he shouldn't be.  It was an exhausting service for me.

On Monday, my dad had to leave work with severe back pain.  We ended up taking him to Urgent Care.  They sent him for an MRI at the hospital.  The results indicated he had a kidney stone but they believed he had already passed it.  They could see the path of the stone but not the stone itself.  They sent him home with some pain medication and the hopes he'd feel better soon.

On Tuesday, Megan gave herself a black eye.  She was sitting on top of one of her toys and fell off and hit another one with her face.  She fussed a little and immediately had a knot just under her eye socket.  I was afraid she had broken a bone or something, but since she didn't seem sensitive to it when I touched it, I decided it might be okay.  Today it's a little blue.  Poor thing.

And today (Wednesday), my dad had to go back to Urgent Care because he was still having some pretty intense pain.  They sent him to the ER.  He ended up having a CT Scan which showed the kidney stone has not yet passed and he has an infection.  So, they gave him antibiotics for the infection and if the stone doesn't pass in the next couple of days, he'll have to go back for "help" with that.

I don't have any plans to leave the house again until the weekend.  I'm hoping Megan won't try anymore circus acts.  It's funny how daring she is.  Andrew is the exact opposite.  He's very aware of every move he makes and has no problem taking his time if he's trying something new.  Megan just throws everything she has into it!

Now if only I could go take a nap...

Birthday Parties

12.31.2010 and 01.01.2011

Our sweet little niece, Caroline, turned one on December 31.  Her mom and dad had a party for her that afternoon.  The kids enjoyed playing, had some yummy snacks, and I enjoyed visiting with a friend I don't get to see nearly enough!

And our only nephew, Nicholas, turned seven on January 2.  His mom and dad planned a birthday party for him at their place on Saturday, January 1.  The kids had a good time and enjoyed pizza and cake.  Megan was so pooped she was asleep before we made it out of the driveway. :)

Our Year in Review

The year 2010 was good to us.  We've had a happy, healthy year with no real obstacles.

In 2010...
We're already looking forward to spring so we can get out and play again.  Plus, Andrew is anxious to ride his new bike.  The last snow just melted, but they're predicting more for tonight so we may be seeing white again!

And just for kicks, I wanted to see how much my kids have grown in the last year.  So, here they are in December 2009 and December 2010:

Happy New Year!

01.02.2011

Well, here it is - 2011.  I didn't make any new year's resolutions last year, so I'm happy to report I didn't break any of them!  And I'm leaning toward not making any this year, either.  There are certainly areas of my life/routine I'd like to work on, though.

First off, an ongoing battle for me, I'd like to be a better Christian, a better mother, a better wife, and a better friend.  I'd also like to blog more, eat less, take more time for me (man do I need a haircut!), and be more organized - you know, as organized as you can be with two kiddos running around!

I'd like to not focus on the past, or even the future, but instead enjoy my now.  Andrew will start school in August.  I don't want to worry about my fears for him but rather enjoy the months I have left having him with me everyday.

I hope to get more rest (I carry the fact that I'm a night owl way too far sometimes!).  I'd like to watch less junk on TV, though I will admit I have a hard time removing any of my "season passes" from my TiVo.  And, I'd like to show my appreciation to our local heroes more, even if that just means dropping off a plate of brownies at the fire station.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture.  I feel like I waste a lot of time (darn TiVo!) that could be spent doing something more productive.

I wish all of you (the three of you I think actually read this blog!), a very happy New Year and hope this year brings many great things your way! :)
